Outreach workers within our Rural Outreach program provide individualized harm reduction and health promotion supports and supplies that help to meet Central Albertans where they are at today. These supports include access to safer substance use and safer sex supplies, debris disposal containers, referrals to medical and social services, and education and advocacy.
Rural Outreach also works on building sustainable relationships with community service providers, increasing their capacity to support service participants in their communities.
Who? Everyone within Central Alberta can access our supports and services. This includes those who live with HIV and/or Hepatitis C, use drugs, are street-involved, identify as LGBTQ+, as well as professionals and community members looking to expand knowledge and support.
Where & how? Harm Reduction and Health Promotion supports and supplies can be accessed in-person by connecting with our Rural Outreach workers and setting up an In-person appointment or delivery.
Clients can also access these supports by connecting with one of our established satellite sites located throughout Central Alberta.
Through partnerships with Turning Point, rural communities in Central Alberta can participate in distributing supplies, education and support through a harm reduction approach to substance use.
This method of service delivery ensures individuals have regular access to supports and can be altered to fit each organization to achieve the best results. We have partnered with pharmacies, community agencies, and shelters to ensure access to supplies in addition to our office and Rural Outreach workers.
Communities can also request our Rural Outreach staff to come out and speak to groups on a wide range of topics including harm reduction and current drug trends, battling stigma, naloxone training, and health promotion.
Presentations are free and have proven to be a successful way for organizations, institutions, agencies, and communities to enhance their service delivery while engaging community members and target populations.
