The Christmas tree on Main Street in Stettler is a decades-long tradition enjoyed every year by all. This year a tree, already scheduled for removal, was donated by Kevin and Joan Mageean of Parkdale.
Town of Stettler employees and a Heartland Industries crane operator cut the massive spruce and lowered it gently into a Town of Stettler dump truck. The tree was then transported to Main Street, where the same crane lifted it and lowered it into its location in a Main Street maintenance hole. The tree was shimmed in place, the ‘no left turn’ signs were put up, and the decorating began for the moment we all love on the night of the Moonlight Madness.
The oldest photo found of the Main Street tree is from a newspaper clipping from 1955. With a few exceptions, the tree has graced Main Street for over 60 years and is a beloved Stettler holiday landmark.
Thank you to Carson Ellis from Our Town Stettler for the historical photo of the main street tree.
