This Sunday, July 17, 2022, The Stettler Triathlon Association will host their Triathlon and 5km Fun Run for the first time since 2019. Combined with swimming, cycling and running over various distances, triathlon athletes train for speed, endurance and strength. Triathlon Alberta sanctions this event, and it is para-athlete friendly.
One hundred seventy-five competitors have registered to take part in the event, with kids (6-15) competing in “Kids of Steel,” Juniors (16-19) competing in “Sprint,” and adults of any age competing in “Sprint” (this is the longer version triathlon) or “Tri-it” (a shorter version). Along with the Triathlon, they will host a 5km Fun Run.
Race proceeds go back into the race to improve the event for future years. The Stettler Triathlon Association is volunteer-based, and it takes many volunteer hours to host a successful race day.
Competitors in the Sprint category have the option to try to qualify for the 2023 Worlds in Hamburg, Germany! One spot per 5-year age group, male & female.
“We are excited to be back for the first time since 2019. The goal is to offer a quality race that is inclusive, competitive, and most importantly - FUN. We have participants from 5 to 71 years old from Pincher Creek to Grande Prairie and as far away as Kamloops. The race would not be successful without the great support of the community and the over 50 volunteers.” Race Organizer Joel Norman
Athletes travel from around the province to compete with local racers.
The Stettler Triathlon action will begin with check-in for athletes starting at 6 am. Results and awards will happen at 1 pm at the Stettler Recreation Centre.
