The last couple of months have been great. We recently had our first tournament in Stettler. Our high school team placed 1st, and we had many kids place 1st to 3rd in their grade levels, which is really good considering it was our first tournament in two years. Last year, we did have virtual tournaments, but they aren’t quite the same. Eleven schools attended our tournament with a lot of parents and supporters.
The next two tournaments are Wetaskiwin on Mar 5th and Castor on Mar 12th. Then we are headed to Provincials in Edmonton on Mar 18th. We are all very excited about being able to attend the provincial tournament. As of now, we hold the Provincial title, so we are hoping to repeat this success. We have been practicing with our Rinehart targets and 3D targets. In provincials, they use Rinehart targets, so it's good to get some practice with them before we go into a tournament. Rinehart targets are pretty much the same as a standard target, but they are rounder and are made of a condensed foam. I think we are all pretty happy to have a somewhat normal tournament season as a team. We are also very excited to continue our initial success in the upcoming tournaments!
In provincials, we shoot a regular bullseye flight, one practice round from 10 and 3 scoring rounds, followed by one practice round from 15m, followed by three scoring rounds. We also get an additional option to shoot a 3D flight. In a 3D flight, we shoot at 3D animal targets, which is really fun. Lately, we have been practicing with our 3D targets so that we have a rough idea of where to aim on all of the different animals, which can be anything from a deer or elk to a small gopher or rabbit. The distance from you to the target varies depending on the animal you are shooting. They can be anywhere from ten to fifteen meters away from you, which is a bit of a challenge because you don’t really know where you should be aiming. Usually, you have a rough idea based on where you aim on a typical target. I really enjoy this flight because all of the pressure is off and you can just have fun and enjoy it.
Our team has had a spectacular month. We had a successful tournament, and we are all looking forward to the ones coming up. The archers are working hard and are looking forward to continuing our success. Overall it has been busy, and it was eventful, but it was a lot of fun.
