Just a short drive twenty minutes from Stettler lies the Village of Rochon Sands, which is home to one of Alberta’s many Disc Golf Courses.
Disc golf is played with discs and baskets instead of golf clubs and numbered holes. You can play nine holes or eighteen, and each time you throw the disc or incur a penalty, it adds to your score. The objective is to play each hole in the fewest strokes possible. The player with the lowest strokes wins!
The Rochon’s Disc Golf Course runs along the lake shore and through the village. It was established in 2017 but had upgrades in 2021. The generosity of locals, several businesses in Stettler, and volunteers made the course possible.
Each year we host the best disc tournament held on the second Saturday of August. Our most recent tournament on August 13th, 2022 had our biggest turnout yet with ninety-six participants - we even had to have a playoff CTP(Closest to Pin) for first place. The tournament brought disc golfers from all over Alberta.
Disc golf is a fun and affordable activity for the whole family, only requiring a minimum of one disc per person to play. Players can purchase starter packs at Kaz Snak Shak or the provincial park office during the summer. Scorecards are available at tee number one, or you can keep track through the UDisc App on iPhone or Android.
We are looking for enough people to start a league night next Spring. Follow our “Rochon Sands Disc Golf Course” group on Facebook for more information on Alberta-wide disc golf events or to join us for a game!
