The County of Stettler has an exciting part-time career opportunity for an experienced firefighter who will bring inspiring, positive and organized leadership to the position of Interim Platoon Chief (Donalda). This position will have the exciting opportunity to coordinate the relaunch of the Donalda Fire Station.


The Interim Platoon Chief is responsible to coordinate the fire station operations, procurement, and training.


An ideal candidate would possess the following minimum qualifications and skills:

  • NFPA 1001 Level 1 and 2

  • Valid Class 1, 2, or 3 Alberta Driver’s License with air break endorsement

  • Standard First Aid

A minimum of 5 years’ experience in an emergency services role. Equivalencies will be considered.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, train, and inspire volunteer firefighters.

  • Establish, model, support and encourage a collaborative and healthy work environment including personal accountability, a unified culture, team alignment, engaged employees, respectful conduct, employee and volunteer recognition and continuous improvement.

  • Coordinate procurement of supplies and equipment operating within the operating and capital budgets for the fire station.

  • Provides oversight to the maintenance of apparatus and equipment

  • Liaise with and foster positive relations with regional partners, municipal neighbors, industry, mutual aid partners, and the public.

  • Understand legislative and regulatory requirements and ensure the station is meeting the requirements outlined in such acts including but not limited to Occupational Health and Safety Act, Regulation and Code and Municipal Government Act.

  • Ensure a positive image is portrayed to the public indicating our municipalities commitment to responsible public service.

  • Report to and update their supervisor regularly on all activities.

The County of Stettler offers a competitive hourly rate. This position will be required to work evenings and weekends.


The successful applicant will be required to provide a criminal and vulnerable sector records check.
