The Community Builders Committee has announced Charlie McKay and Elaine Pitt as the 2024 Community Builders honourees.

Charlie McKay, known for his revolutionary work with the Stettler Auction Mart and auctioneering prowess, will be recognized for “Pioneering in Livestock Marketing".

Elaine Pitt will be acknowledged for “Pioneering in the Arts” following her lifelong dedication to choir and vocal teachings.

Both monuments will be unveiled during a short ceremony on June 14th, beginning at 3:30 pm. The ceremony will be held west of Pioneer Park on 44th Avenue, and is open for all to attend. Proceedings will include a verbal history on each honouree, and insight into this historical conservation program.

“This year the committee has endeavoured to provide engaging and interesting educational opportunities to people of all ages through the recognition of two more community-minded individuals," says Town of Stettler Councillor and Community Builders Chairperson, Cheryl Barros. "Their stories and influence within our community has been felt by all and by adding these two latest monuments, we hope to increase the understanding of the incredible history Stettler has to offer its residents and visitors alike.”

The Community Builders Committee was established in 2020 with the purpose of uncovering the history of the groups and individuals that ‘built’ Stettler through their various efforts and innovations, with the belief that their stories are too crucial to lose.

Through the annual installation of monuments, the Committee aims to preserve this pivotal history while beautifying a popular walkway along 44th Avenue.
