Each year, 4-H clubs around the province gear up for their end-of-year Shows. These special events let the members showcase their projects and what they have learned and worked on throughout the winter months.

The Stettler District has four Beef clubs, Big Knife Beef (based in Botha), Big Valley Beef, Byemoor Beef and Erskine Beef. Together, they have 68 members from ages 6 to 21. On the Monday and Tuesday after the May long weekend, they gather together to have their District Show and Sale event.

Monday features the Female Show, where members who have female projects (Heifers, Two-year-old Cow with Calf and Three-Year-old Cow with calf) show their project animals.

Tuesday is the Steer show, where members show their market steer projects, which will sell later that day.

Carcass project steers are butchered before the show date and are judged on their quality as a meat carcass - including such criteria as marbling, ribeye size, muscling and fat thickness.

During the District show, the members also compete in Recordkeeping, with awards given to the best record books in each age group.

Each year the Stettler District Beef committee arranges to purchase and feed a charity steer. This animal is auctioned at the sale, and the district donates the money to a charity - this year, the Stettler District Beef Bursary will be the recipient of the funds.
