Local Spotlight on Sheree Yakelashek

StettlerLocal.com May 24, 2022 @ 4:00pm

Where are you from? Where did you grow up?

I was born and raised in Stettler, and now live in Erskine.

Why do you (did you) choose Stettler as home?

Stettler has always been "home" to me. I love the small-town feel of Stettler in that it is big enough to have family programming and offers all the services a person needs, but is also community-minded and small-town enough to say hello to people you pass by.

What do you do? What is your full title?

I am currently the Community Outreach worker at Stettler & District FCSS

Education?

My most recent educational endeavour was a diploma in Business Administration with a major in accounting. Before that, I spent many years applying a Veterinary Reception certificate working at the Stettler Vet Clinic. Life experience and life lessons are the most influential forms of informal education I have received, and I believe they are just as important as a formal education.

Family?

I am celebrating 5 years married to my incredible husband Wade. I am also grateful for my handsome, kind, outgoing 14-year-old Troy and our kind-hearted, smartie-pants, sweetheart daughter Brooklynn who is 5 years old.

Who inspired you in your youth? My biggest inspiration throughout my whole life has always been my Dad, Jim Mailer. He taught me so many things about values, ethics, empathy, and how to be genuine. The most valuable lesson, however, was that we don't have forever, so make sure to say your "I love you' s", and take time to notice and enjoy the moments where time stands still, cause life just gets crazy!

Who inspires you now?

I think inspiration can come from many places, and for different reasons. My Mom, Joyce Mailer, definitely inspires me to be strong when life gets tough and patient when I'm frustrated. My sister, Brenda Mailer, way out in Nova Scotia inspires me to be grounded and aware of my energy, my spirit and presence. My crew at work and Director, Shelly Walker, inspires me to bring my best to offer to help our community in so many ways I didn't know were needed before, to be kind and give without judgement.

Do you have any hobbies?

I enjoy anything that involves sunshine, like quadding, golfing and camping in the summer, playing with my kids, and Skidoo rides in the winter.

What are your plans for the future?

I would love to do more travelling, sit on a beach with a good book, spend time with my family and just enjoy life. I might even pick up some old hobbies like painting.

Anything else you would like to add about being a resident of Stettler County?

Stettler is a great little community with so much to offer. I love the familiar faces and the way our community comes together.
