Let me introduce you to the Stettler Friends of the Library Society, a very important fundraising and advocacy group for the Stettler Public Library. The Friends group started in 1993, raising money for the Library’s move to the Stettler Recreation Centre. They are still going strong 28 years later!
As a Society, the Friends group is able work the casinos every three to four years. This additional funding provides items needed by patrons such as books and helps in the purchase of larger items like shelving.
The Friends group holds used book sales twice a year in April and August. Our last sale was in August 2019 due to the pandemic. We are pleased the Friends are bringing the book sale back this summer from August 23 to 28. Everything will be for sale by donation. The Friends also maintain an ongoing book sale by the Library’s front door.
As if that weren’t enough, the Friends also host the Historic Ghost Walk from June through October. Learn about the storied history of Stettler while taking an evening walk. The next Ghost Walks are August 27 and 28 at 9 pm. Call the Library (403) 742-2292 for more information.
Details will be coming soon for the 4th annual Christmas Wine Survivor, the Friends’ marquee event! Win up to 60 bottles of wine and make the holidays very jolly! Tickets will be on sale in September.
The Friends of the Library also play an important role in bringing Alberta Culture Days events to Stettler each September. If you are look for a volunteer opportunity, the Friends would love to have you. Come to the AGM at the Stettler Public Library on Wednesday, August 25 at 7 pm. New members are always welcome!
