Alberta Air Tours will be landing in Stettler on Saturday, June 3 as part of the Central Alberta air tour.
This Stettler Flying Club / COPA Flight 135 is hosting this event for the "Destination Stettler" end point.
Aircraft will start arriving in Stettler around 2:30 from the Olds Didsbury Airport (stop #2 on the tour) and will stay until after 6pm.
Once all the aircraft have arrived and are parked, the barricades will be opened and the public will be able to get up close to the aircraft and visit with the pilots.
"The Air Tours not only remind us of the incredible feeling when flying or watching these fascinating aircraft," says Dina Jammaz, president of the Alberta Air Tours Society, "they also present an opportunity to inspire interest in aviation careers."
Jammaz is also a director for Elevate Aviation, a non-profit group providing a platform for women and other underrepresented groups to pursue careers in aviation.
"There is a critical shortage of aviation personnel in Canada," says Jammaz. "The Alberta Air Tours gives Elevate Aviation the opportunity to share the opportunity of free mentorship and training programs to rural Alberta. There are so few females in aviation, and even fewer indigenous people. Representatives from Elevate will be present at every tour to provide information to the community."
The Alberta Air Tours is a group of up to 40 general aviation aircraft that fly together to visit the community airports around the province. They do it to explore Alberta, to discover the unique qualities that each community surrounding these airports has to offer, and to spread the word to the flying community for future visits.
They also seek to communicate the great economic potential these airports have, inspire people to fly, and bring aviation career awareness to the rural citizens of Alberta.
Stettler will be the final stop on the June 3 tour. The first stop is Brooks, where the tour will land around 7:30 am, before departing at 10:30 to visit Olds Didsbury.
The Stettler and District Ag Society is hosting a Farmers Market at the airport that day from 2:00-5:00 pm, and there will be a number of aviation organizations ready to share information with the public.
Note: The event has a alternate date of June 10th should weather or wildfire smoke create a visibility issue.
