Bylaw 2172-24 will serve to safeguard the municipality’s tax rate.

Following a unanimous decision at the June 19, 2024 Council Meeting, the Town of Stettler Waterworks Bylaw has been amended to include preventative measures. Effective with the immediate enactment of Bylaw 2172-24, the following changes are now in place:
The Town may refuse to open a utility account if a tenant has an outstanding balance
from another account, has been disconnected for non-payment three or more times, or has
previously had a past-due account with the Town sent to a third-party collection agency.
Outstanding payment penalties will be applied to the account’s total outstanding balance,
rather than just the current balance.
The deposit for new tenant accounts is now $300.
Landowners can now access tenant utility account information.
If a property under the same owner has had three previous tenants disconnected for
non-payment, the account must remain in the owner’s name.
"I am thankful to the forward-thinking team here at the Town that has helped shape this
amending bylaw," says CAO Leann Graham. "I am confident that these changes will put us on par with changing municipal trends, and will serve to protect our tax base for the average ratepayer while empowering landowners."
